The project “Take Your Butt With You” focuses on raising awareness about reducing pollution caused by cigarette butts, one of the most common plastic wastes in the environment. It highlights how small individual actions can have a significant positive or negative impact.

With the help of QR codes and short interactive content, the project tracks people’s behavior and encourages more responsible choices.

The project “Take Your  Butt With You” was designed by the company MARISTRA, which integrates education, tourism, and sustainability in its work. The YouSea Institute for Marine Biodiversity Conservation and the public company OKOLJE Piran joined the initiative as partners. Together, we strive to reduce the harmful impact of waste and encourage the public to act responsibly and collectively care for a cleaner environment.

Let’s join forces and collect 1 million cigarette butts together!
Take an empty used preserving jar, fill it with collected cigarette butts, and take a photo of it.
Send the photo to and share it on your social media with the hashtag #nobutts, adding the location where the cigarette butts were collected, and inspire others to join the challenge by setting an example.
Add a photo of cigarette butts in a jar here.

For correct answers, photos of marine inhabitants are displayed—creatures whose clean and safe living environment we help preserve through responsible behavior.
On the Zavod YouSea website, you can learn about their stories and their role in our sea. The photographs were taken by underwater photographer Borut Furlan.
